    Decorating With Brass Lamps

Contemporary décor is fresh and features nice strong lines that are clear and no clutter. It's a little bit trendy and a little bit eclectic all at the same time and it is the perfect décor for brass lamps!

Brass has long been a popular choice for lighting fixtures and lamps. It's durable, lasts forever, and it looks great. So it's not surprising that today it's still a number one choice for a contemporary décor.

Of course there is a whole new line of styles to choose from, but don't rule out the vintage or art deco pieces. They can truly be a work of art while providing functional lighting.

Over time brass develops a wonderful patina that simply can't be duplicated. It's truly the beauty of age and this patina finish looks splendid in any décor but in a contemporary décor it has the ability to really make a statement by providing contrast between old and new.

Modern brass lamps also tend to be made of hollow brass where as many of the older lamps were solid brass so they are really well built and are much more durable. They also have a different look to them. So when choosing your lamps be sure to look at new and old.

The simple lines of a contemporary décor are perfect for dramatic art. Think big and bold and then think brass lamp overhead accenting it. If your computer is in the room you can use a brass desk lamps to stay with your brass theme.

A common question is should your lamps match? The answer is yes and no. Now that's about as vague as it gets right. If you have a pair of lamps then keep your pair together. If you have more than one pair in the room that's great too. When it comes to lamps it's rather like women and shoes. You can never have too many pairs! Pairs create balance.

But odd lamps are also great. Odd lamps can give a room character and they can throw the balance off. Yes there are times when you want to do just that! You can also create balance with lamps that don't match by matching shades. Another trick is to take a pair of figurines, urns, or any other matching décor and place one with each lamp which will give you balance.

Brass is also easy to take care of. You can just dust with a soft cloth regularly. Manufacturers recommend microfiber cloths. When the metal begins to loose its shine use brass cleaner to restore it. If the brass is looking less brassy apply a light application of furniture polish.

Often brass is coated with lacquer to make maintenance easier and slow down tarnishing. Don't use brass cleaner on a lacquer surface just clean with warm soapy water. You can use warm soap and water to clean glass shades, and fabric shades can be wiped with a damp cloth.

Decorating with brass lamps is a great way to add warmth, character, and class to your room at affordable prices and with little maintenance.
