Not so long ago in a land that seems forgotten our ancestors
would light their way using candles. But modern life offers
us many different lighting options. Isn't it time to shed
some light on the subject with copper lamps?
Your lighting can set the mood and change its role just
by a turn on a dial or a flick of the switch. There are
two types of lighting your room will need - task lighting
which allows you to complete your tasks such as reading
your favorite book, and ambient lighting which will set
the mood creating a relaxing atmosphere.
Your ambient lighting is softer and allows for much more
creative thinking in your choices. Copper is a great choice
for setting the mood with its rich and warm coloring it's
perfect for table and accent lamps, candleholders, tea
lights, sconces, fixtures and even oil lamps. Yes oil
lamps are still a great way to set a mood.
Here are some tips on using your copper lighting to achieve
your mood and task needs.
1. Kitchen The kitchen is area that is task orientated
but at the same time when it's time to sit down and
enjoy that meal you'll want to ensure the mood is set.
Copper track lamps that are grouped in your work areas
like sinks, stoves, counter space works well.
Over your table you should have a wonderful large hanging
copper lamp. There are some great retro pieces but there
are some awesome modern pieces as well. The copper shade
will throw pink hues which are relaxing and romantic.
Your track lighting will keep your task areas brightly
lit and you'll have set the mood for dining.
2. Bathroom The bathroom is a finicky room where it's
very important to eliminate glare and shadows. Recessed
lighting or vanity lighting does this best. You could
choose a copper vanity strip.
But wait, you also need some lighting that's going
to have a calm and relaxing effect. Remember the old
"Calgon take me away," commercials? That's exactly the
effect you want when you hop into that tub. Copper accent
lamps placed near the tub or a hanging copper lamp will
do just that, especially once you change the bulb to
pink. Another option to consider is a fabulous old copper
chandelier with flicker candle bulbs. Now that will
make a statement and create quite the atmosphere!
3. Bedroom Dimmers are an absolute must here! You'll
want to take your lighting form task to intimate in
30 seconds or less. The bedroom should have adequate
lamps. Include a floor lamp, a table lamp or two, and
a couple of reading lamps. The swing are style that
mounts on the wall is great for reading and you should
see the awesome copper styles that are available.
Bedrooms tend to follow more traditional lines so if
yours does just that why not look for a vintage copper
floor lamp? The styles of the past combined with the
wonderful patina that copper builds do a great job of
setting the mood!
4. Living Room Your living room is probably the second
most used room in your home next to your kitchen and
this is the room where family and friends gather to
relax and enjoy each others company. Be sure your lighting
is adequate and sets the mood.
The best way to accomplish this is to have lots of lighting
options in the room. A couple of copper table lamp
on the end tables, accent lamps on the mantle or shelving,
floor lamps in the darker corners, and even a hanging
chandelier or lamp over ones favorite chair. A floor lamp
with a goose neck also works great over the chair you
tend to curl up with your favorite book.
Copper has long since been recognized as a material that
adds ambiance to a room. Its rich rosy tones are warm
and inviting while at the same time presenting classic
elegance in design and style. If there were Oscars for
the best lamps your copper lamps would win hands down!
