Gas Lamps Are A Great Choice For Outdoors

Outdoor lighting has become the fastest areas of growth in lighting design. More and more of us are paying attention to more than just our outside safety and security concerns. We are spending a great deal more time using lighting to enhance our yards and patios. Gas lamps are a great choice for outdoors!

It was way back in 1792 that gas lighting came to be when William Murdoch lit his home in Cornwall with coal gas. By 1799 the thermolampe was on the market. This lampe used gas made from distilled wood. And by 1804 Freidrich Winzer of Germany had patented coal gas.

By the late 1800s almost all the cities in Europe and the US were using gas lights for street lighting which was eventually replaced by electric lighting. Today gas lamps are making a comeback for lighting yards. That's because it's not only appealing it's very affordable.

You could say we've come along way! From gas lamps on street corners to gas lamps in our yards, talk about curb appeal! These days w recognize our outdoor space as part of our living space and we tend to spend a great deal more time using it for entertaining. Gas lighting can not only accentuate your landscaping it can set the mood for those memorable get togethers.

There are many different styles to choose from to help create a distinct style that's all your own. Cast brass and aluminum in either white or black are popular for lamp. Choose between wall mounts, posts, and pedestals.

For around the pool, on the patio, or down the walkway consider gas torches. They'll add glamour and graciousness. And if you're looking to set a romantic mood strategically place them around your backyard swing or on the deck.

If you want to know what not to do just have a look around your neighborhood. Examples of bad outdoor lighting are everywhere. Don't be one of them. Poor placement and the wrong type of fixtures can lead to glare, dark areas, uneven lighting, and sky glow. Sky glow is when the light goes up towards the sky providing no benefit to your yard and adding to the light pollution.

Placing lighting that goes skyward is a waste of your energy dollars. Rather install fixtures where the light goes down towards the ground. This improves visibility in your yard and it will mean you'll need fewer lights throughout the yard.

And if you ever wondered how popular gas lamps have become again. All you need to do is look at Prague parts of the Old Town Square are once again lit by gas. The plan was launched back in 2002 and visitors for the winter Olympics were able to enjoy the walk backing time with flickering blue and yellow flames.

Whether you live in a French provincial country home that's 4000 square feet or a cozy cottage that's 700 square feet gas lamps are a great way to make better use of your outdoor space and make your yard look great!
