    Interior Lighting

Interior lighting, while often overlooked as merely an afterthought, actually plays a very large part in the overall look and feel of an area. With the right lighting, any room can be either bright and cheery, warm and relaxing or any combination that you can imagine.

So, one of the first things to think about when designing an interior lighting scheme, is what kinds of activities will be taking place in the area. There are few room types that are not served well by the addition of a dimmer control. This way the level of light can be adjusted as is needed.

There are more differences between types of rooms when it comes to use of floor lighting, such as stand lighting, and ceiling lighting. In large recreational rooms where there will be rowdy activities, you will probably want to stick primarily to ambient ceiling lighting.

With applications such as a large recreational area or room, a wonderful option is natural lighting, such as that from a skylight. Skylights are a great way to let invigorating natural sunlight into everyday life.

For a charming indoor/outdoor recreational area, let in both sun and air and cut down on air conditioning costs at the same time. There's nothing like a cozy, open air tennis court or patio area. If your locale doesn't produce enough wind to make the most of your outdoor area, consider using a large bladed fan to keep air moving on hot days.

When larger rooms are broken up into smaller areas, such as a large living room, the smaller areas will each need their own light source, in addition to the ambient ceiling lights of the entire room.

Each armchair or couch should have a stand light or a table and table lamp to provide adequate light for reading or other activities. Tall floor stand lamps are especially nice to have behind or beside chairs frequented for reading, sewing or other handiwork. These types of lights are the easiest to adjust to exact and well-lighting positions.

Along with natural lighting, I'm a big fan of indirect lighting as well. Any lighting that doesn't produce a glare or is so bright as to cause one to want to look away is avoided. Indirect lighting such as under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen, and indirect inverted chandeliers and light borders in other rooms help to provide light without having to see a naked bulb anywhere.

There are many inspiration provoking articles and example lighting solutions to browse through online. In addition, many of the leading interior lighting suppliers have really informative and graphically intensive websites and tools so that you can see the difference between different interior lighting solutions.

When in doubt, go for variety. By offering a variety of light intensity options, height of light source and positions of light sources, from which to choose, you will never be wanting for additional lighting. And when the overall lighting comes fro many sources, it's easy to tame things a bit if it is too bright.

There are tons of quality interior lighting suppliers online. Just take some time to search for the one that carries the styles and particular items that you're looking for. Most of the lighting kits you will be able to install yourself with minimal knowledge and basic household tools. Have fun!
