I just finished an exiting move into my new digs. Now grant it they are a bit on the small side or shall we say cozy but I do love them and my next task is a facelift. Home décor for small digs should always include a mini chandelier.
Many of you have cozy smaller homes that suit you needs nicely. But you'll also be faced with the task of giving your small space a makeover that compliments the coziness and doesn't overwhelm or clutter it. One of the best places to start looking for those right pieces in stores that sell used goods or online. This is where you'll truly fine unique and unusual pieces.
You'll need to pick your color for your theme. It always works well to choose your favorite color. For my place I chose red as I wanted something bold and different. Now if you're thinking red is really bold you're right but boy can you make a statement and wow does it do remarkable things for a small space.
In my shopping adventure I came across a beautiful cranberry and cream quilt. Hand made, cream base with large leaves done in a light and dark cranberry. It was simply irresistible and before I even had it delivered I could visualize it thrown loosely over my sofa.
Oh wait! I didn't have the sofa yet. That was my next mission and boy did I score big! Ikea had the perfect futon sofa for me with its non overbearing design and nice deep red cover.
Next I found a Chippendale style dining room set online for a great price. The chairs needed recovering and that was just fine because I had found this wonderful cherry fabric set on a cream background.
And then it was time to find that perfect chandelier. With so many great websites offering a variety of chandeliers it wasn't that difficult at all. For $179 I found a four light mini chandelier made of steel with a black finish. Shades were available in white, black, and red and you guessed it I chose the red.
Now this might be hard to picture but my dining room is absolutely stunning. First I created a feature wall in a deep red, Moore's raisin torte. The other three walls were done in Moore's bar harbor beige. Then The Chippendale dining room table was placed in the room, the chandelier installed, and a large abstract print on the feature wall with track lighting. I must say I couldn't believe I created such a beautiful room on my own.
Now for my living room sticking with my red theme but toning it down just a bit I used the same base shade of the raisin torte but I had it toned down 4 shades by the paint store. I added a deep red throw rug over my hardwood floors, added my furniture and that beautiful quilt I bought and I was just about done. Two small contemporary vases, my mini lamp with red shade and I'm done. Another masterpiece if I must say.
On to the bathroom. I'm lucky since my fixtures are all white. I've decided to do a feature wall in Moore taste of berry and I used brandy cream on the other three walls. Now I did some interesting border work reversing the colors to create my top border. And I've chosen bella blue for my ceiling. Add two fun mini crystal chandeliers, towels in the three color tones and wowzer; I've got a room fit for a queen! Really!
Last room to attack is my bedroom. Now remember my pads pretty small so there isn't a lot of room in the bedroom but it doesn't matter. It's an easy challenge and completed it looks ultra feminine. I used pink pansy then used my raisin torte from the living room for one feature wall and the border. I choose three beautiful floral prints for the feature wall and then I purchased a beautiful hand crafted mini chandelier from Brazil. Intricate layers of flowers and shells finely woven together on a rattan base. Decadent!
That's it. Just a little bit of online surfing and I had found all the right décor pieces and lighting fixtures, and I could even try my paint colors out online before I made my decision. The internet has definitely been a real help for remodeling enthusiasts.
Small apartments are cozy and inviting and the home décor for your small digs should always include a beautiful mini chandelier. It's truly a fashion statement!
